What is SET? The United States is falling dangerously behind other nations in developing its future workforce of scientists, engineers, and technology experts and faces a crisis in its ability to keep up with increasing demand for professionals trained in these fields. For over 100 years, 4-H has been at the forefront of teaching youth about science, engineering and technology and reaches more than 5 million youth with hands-on learning experiences to encourage young minds and to fill the pipeline of young leaders proficient in science. Vermont 4-H has SET curriculum, materials and resource kits, and training opportunities in areas such as robotics, GIS and GPS, chemical and wind energy, among others.
To introduce these opportunities to our state’s volunteer leaders, this year’s state leader training will offer comprehensive training and fun hands-on activities for Vermont 4-H adult and teen leaders on science, engineering and technology applications in 4-H club and 4-H event settings. Using a hands-on, inquiry-based, skill-building approach, we will provide the latest tools to help leaders build confidence and competence in identifying and delivering high quality science, engineering and technology learning experiences that are age-appropriate and based on best practices. The training will provide attendees with complete instructions, readily available supplies, and session evaluations.
